JOANNA HANHIKOSKI
Sigmund Toppe (b. 2000) is a Norwegian pianist from Bergen, now based in Oslo, who maintains an active concert career as a soloist and chamber musician. He performs regularly at leading festivals and venues in Norway and has appeared in projects across Europe, including Iceland, Denmark, Italy, and the Netherlands. He recently completed his Master’s degree in piano performance at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied with Christopher Park, Håvard Gimse, and Sveinung Bjelland. He has established himself as a versatile and distinctive artist with a broad and active concert profile. Toppe collaborates regularly with established ensembles and was recently featured as a soloist with the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, and will this spring perform Griegs concerto with Kristiansund Symphony orchestra. A prizewinner in national competitions for young musicians and composers, he has also received several scholarships and grants in recognition of his work. Alongside his performing career, he is part of the artistic leadership of the Mediterraneo Chamber Music Festival in Italy. He is also active as an accompanist within talent development programmes at the Norwegian Academy of Music and has given several masterclasses. Deeply engaged with the music of Edvard Grieg, Toppe has performed at the composer home at Troldhaugen at several occasions through the year and appears also this season in the KODE concert program in Bergen. With a background in a family of folk musicians, he has developed projects exploring the intersection of classical music and Norwegian folk traditions, collaborating with leading young folk musicians in Norway. The Nordic music has been central to his artistic development from an early age, and remains a core part of his repertoire.
